(OOC: I hate starting these things. I always feel like a doofus...*sigh* How the heck does a five-year-old Kakashi act? ??? Oookay...I guess I'll just wing it)

It was late afternoon and the playground was almost empty. In the lengthening sun sat a small boy on one of the swings, his brown eyes fixed on the ground as he kicked at the sand under his feet. He leaned a head of bushy white hair against the swing's rope and sighed.

Getting transferred to a harder class had been a mixed blessing. He was challenged more and it was more interesting. Kakashi had been bored before he had moved up.

The problem was the other kids. They were all bigger...and not all of them liked the fact that he was supposedly "special".

Voices behind him caused the little boy to turn and his jaw tightened. It was Yuta, Maki and Hiiro. These three were the worst kids Kakashi had had to deal with. He considered hopping off the swing and walking away. But why should he? He had a right to be here. Facing forward, Kakashi's hands gripped the swing ropes tightly and frowned in determination.

There was a heavy push on his shoulder. "Hey, what are you doing here, baby?"

Kakashi rolled his eyes. That insult sucked. But he didn't say anything; he never did. They'd give up after awhile when he didn't react and leave him alone. Then he could swing, close his eyes and pretend he was flying. Kakashi like to pretend that; sometime he wished he had wings like birds did, then he could go up really high.

He was so caught up in his thoughts that he forgot momentarily that he was pretty much surrounded by three boys who were much bigger and who weren't happy with him.

"Hey, are you listening to me?" Yuta demanded. Kakashi jumped startled, then his usual, half-lidded, bored look returned.

"I don't get why they think you're so smart." Yuta commented, bending over to look at his face. "You never talk; how do we know you even can?"

Kakashi bit his tongue. They were all so dumb sometimes! He really hated it. He just wanted to graduate and then concentrate on being a ninja. Maybe he would be able to figure out a jutsu that made a person fly! He smiled at the thought, lost in future plans again, competley ignoring the boys around him.

Yuta had always been the hot-headed sort. It irked him to no end that he had failed graduation once already and this kid before him was seven years younger but was a favorite student. And now the brat was ignoring him.

Kakashi suddenly was flung out of his thoughts of planning a flying jutsu as Yuta's fist connected to his face. That was his one problem; he got so caught up in daydreaming and thinking that he sometimes closed off the reality around him. Too late now.

He hit the ground and grimaced, holding his bloody nose. Yuta stood over him. "You gonna listen to me now, brat?"

"Why should I when all your talk is stupid?" Kakashi said. "You can't even come up with a decent insult."

Yuta frowned and he aimed a kick at Kakashi. The boy jumped back. Yuta jerked his head and Maki and Hiiro walked up, grinning.

Kakashi squinted as he pulled his hand away from his face. Seeing the blood drip off his hand aggravated him enough to want to fight back. He started his day dream back up, only this time he was dreaming about using his flying justu to fly right into Yuta’s stomach.
“Ha! Not so tough now!” Maki and Hiiro sneared over him.
Yuta took up the taunt. “Yeah. Your really just a big baby!”
Kakashi rolled his eyes. They were really getting lame now.
Yuta jumped forward and lept on Kakashi with Hiiro and Yuta close behind. Kakashi was being suffocated under a doggy pile of three heavy bodies. But suddenly a shadow moved over the mound of boys and Hirro, who was on top, yelped in pain and rolled off. Yuta and Maki rolled off too, quickly scrambling to their feet. Kakashi took a much needed breath and peered up to see a black haired kid with one eyebrow pulled up in sarcasm.
“Yuta, you idiot.” He shook his head.
“Hit the road Obito!” Yuta yelled. “This isn’t your fight.”
The black haired kid pointed to his face. “Tell me, does this look like a face that cares?”
“Hit the road!” Hirro and Maki screeched in unison.
“You to two can scram. I just want a word with this moron here.” He pointed to Yuta.
“We’re not going anywhere.” Maki said as he spread his legs out in a sturdy position.
“And your not going to get any “words” with me either.” Yuta piped in.
“Have it your way.” The black haired kid said and then, quick as lightening, moved in and punched Yuta in the face. Yuta was now the one holding his nose. The black haired kid seemed amused as he prepared to punch the next closest person, which happened to be Hiiro. But Hiiro scampered away as Yuta and Maki fallowed him quickly out of the park.
Shaking his head agian the kid with the black hair turned to watch them go, Kakashi got up out of the sand and wiped his bloody nose off with his shirt.
“Thanks.” Kakashi said.
“Don’t thank me. I just really hate Yuta. Give him all the crap I can, whenever I can. You just happened to be here when I gave him some.” The black haired kid smiled at himself and began to walk away.
Kakashi was a little unnerved. “Yeah really? Well than I take it back. No thanks.”
Obito turned around. “I see. Your mad because somebody had to help you out of the dog pile.”
“No, I’m mad because you’re being a jerk about helping me out of the dog pile.” Kakashi said and then proceeded to turn away.
Obito stopped him and stuck his hand out. “My names Obito.”
Kakashi turned around and stared at it. “Kakashi.”
Obito nodded and they parted ways; Obito to the monkey bars and Kakashi back to his beloved swing.

(*giggles* Me likes! ^__^ I LOVE your Obito!!)

Kakashi thundered up the steps to the apartment he shared with his father. It had been getting dark and he knew he had to get home.

He thought about that boy, Obito. The kid was a Uchiha; Kakashi had seen the tell-tale fan printed on the boy's shirt. No wonder he had been so fast when he punched Yuta.

Kakashi opened the door and looked around; the room was dark. He closed the door and slipped off his sandals, then trotted to the eating area to get a drink.

He was just bringing the glassful of water to his lips when there was a heavy hand on his shoulder. "You have blood on your shirt."

Kakashi started, spilling his water and coughing. He looked up. "You weren't supposed to be home till tomorrow." he got out, staring up at a tall man with broad shoulders and long white hair. His ice blue eyes twinkled a little as he smiled.

"The mission finished sooner than we expected." Hatake Sakumo stated. "I got home in time to see you graduate from the Academy; finals tomorrow?"

Kakashi nodded, putting his cup in the sink. "I'll pass." he said confidently. Sakumo's eyes twinkled again.

"Such confidence." he murmured, then ruffled Kakashi's hair. "So...the blood?"

"Fell off the monkey bars." Kakashi answered easily, going to his room to change into a dry, clean shirt. Sakumo raised an eyebrow as his son skipped back out and vaulted over the back of the couch, bouncing as he landed on the cushions. Humming a little tune, Kakashi picked up a text book and opened it.

Sakumo watched in the doorway, his face unusually weary. War was becoming more and more intense; battles were coming closer to the village. He feared a little about Kakashi's graduation; knowing the genin were thrown into battles just as often as a Chuunin could be. And Kakashi was only five...

***

The next day Kakashi sat in his classroom as tests were handed out. He stared at the questions; some seemed ridiculously easy. The boy glanced over and saw Obito seated a few rows below. The older boy had a slightly vexed look on his face as he tapped his pencil against the paper. Kakashi leaned back, pushing his finished test away. He was the first one done. He looked over and stared at the blonde girl next to him. She looked at him and gave a bright smile. Kakashi grinned back; he liked Rin. The girl was nice to him and didn't treat him mean like some of the boys or like he was a baby like some of the other girls.

It seemed an eternity before time was called and the kids were sent out for a recess. Kakashi headed for the swings and settled himself. He looked up and saw Yuta, Hiiro and Maki glowering at him, although they kept a safe distance away. Kakashi smirked a little then saw a flash of blonde out of the corner of his eye. He turned and grinned at Rin again. She smiled back and waved, then turned back to the girls she had been talking too.

There was a rattle of chains and he looked over at the swing next to him. It was Obito. He stared at the boy.

(Rin is their female teammate. She seems very sweet tempered and motherly; often plays peacemaker between Obi and Kashi when they argue. ^__^)

Okay, here we go, my first entry!!!!!

_____________________________________________

Feeling a little nervous, Rin chose a seat in the large school room. Today was finals, even though she was convident of her success, she couldn't help but be a little nervous. Taking a deep breath she looked at the test sheet in front of her. Gosh! Did they have to list so many questions? Glancing over she recognized little Kakashi sitting next to her, he was a cutie, amazing too for his age, five years younger than her and look, he had already finished with his test! He looked up at her as she smiled at him, winning a grin, she went back to her test.

Finally, the bell rang and school let out for recess, Rin made her way to the park to eat her lunch, she was sitting with her two friends Hatsue and Tomoe who were rambling on about who knows what? Its just too hard to concentrate on talking or even eating, next were the jutsu performance exams. The entire playground was full of excitement, all the students were talking about what great ninjas they were going to be when they grow up. Looking around she spotted Obito, she had talked to him earlier that day, he seemed pretty confident of passing the exams and graduating. Some of the students there, were taking these exams for their second and even third times, this made her feel a little doubtful. And little Kakashi, he is an absolute genius, he’d probably be sure to pass.

The jutsu performance exams, were the last examinations that would take place. If you pass you would receive a hitai-ate and become a full-fledged shinobi, with real missions! Rin watched as one by one each of the students were called into the next room to perform before the teachers. The last performance was to generate a doppelganger.

“Pheh, this should be easy.” Rin looked to find little Kakashi sitting beside her with his hands in his pockets, and that usual, half-lidded, look on his face; he didn’t seem fazed at all.

“So your quite the confident sort then huh?” She said it in a half mocking, half encouraging voice, Kakashi just shrugged at her remark, then he grinned revealing his teeth between his pudgy little-boy cheeks.
"Hee hee, your so cute little Kakashi!" This made him stop smiling, he didn't partictularly like to be called cute, that was a name for babies. Even though she knew this she couldn't help but tease him, but it is true, he is cute.

“Kyoyama Rin.” She was almost startled by the teachers voice.
"Well, wish me luck." Then conjuring up some confidence she made her way into the next room. Doppelgangers weren’t her specialty, but here we go. Clasping her fingers together, and concentrating the right amount of chakra, she conjured a well enough form that the inspectors called a pass! Overjoyed, she skipped to the front of the room to receive her Hitai-ate. It was beautiful, the blue headband was fastened to a shiny metal protector with the symbol of their village engraved upon it.

Thanking the teachers she made her way outside to where the other graduates were admiring their own headbands.

“Rin! You passed!” Turning, she saw Obito coming towards her.
“Hey! You did too!” She said spotting the hitai-ate mounted on his forehead.
"Yeah, thats great, tomorrow we get divided into teams, and then we can start real missions!"

"Rin!" It was her father calling her.
"Dad!" She ran towards him and he swooped her into his arms.
"Dad look!" She exclaimed and proudly presented her new headband.
"Now would you look at that. You know I can't tell you how much your Daddy is proud of his little girl."
"Oh Dad." She wrapped her small arms around his neck.
Rin is definately a Daddy's girl, she's a completly differant person when he's there. He is the kindest and dearest person she knows. Being an only child she receives much attention from both her parents. Her mother supports and encourages any dreams or ambitions Rin has, and her father helps her train and practice to accomplish these dreams. They both are medical ninja's just as the rest of Rin's family is, and her father has started training her in the special art.

"Where's Mom?"
"Oh she's working at the hospital. But she'll be with us for the celebration."
"Celebration?"
"Yeah, were taking you out to dinner, you get to choose."
"Sushi!"
"Ah, now that's my girl, sushi it is!."

(OOC: Jen, Shayna isn't going to be able to post for a little while, so we'll just keep going and she'll catch up)

Kakashi sat at the meeting place, swinging his legs as he sat on the bridge railing. He glanced up as Obito walked up, hands casually in his pockets. Obito glanced at him and gave a short nod.

Kakashi returned it and then brushed some of his white hair out of his dark eyes. There were footsteps on the bridge. He waved as Rin jogged up, looking cheerful.

"Hi, Rin." Kakashi gave a slight smile. Rin smiled back and leaned against the railing.

"Looks like you're all here."

All three children jumped to their feet as a tall, handsome blonde man with bright blue eyes and an easy grin walked up.

"Good; I heard one of you had trouble being on time." The man gave a pointed stare to Obito. The dark haired boy looked away with an annoyed stare. The smallest of grins appeared on Kakashi's face.

"Yoh-sensei," Rin began. "What are we going to do today?"

"Well..." the blonde man ran his fingers through his spiky hair, then turned. "Follow me."

The three obeyed and followed Yoh-sensei to one of the training grounds.

"Are we going to go to do some fighting training?" Kakashi asked, his brown eyes bright with curiousity.

"Not quite." Yoh stared at them, considering.

Rin Kyoyama. She was about ten years old right now. According to her academy records, she was a slightly above average student. Her family was well-known as medical ninjas; they were some of the best surgeons known. Rin was expected to become a surgeon as well and since she had fine control of chakra already, Yoh was sure she would have little trouble pursuing that field.

Uchiha Obito. The boy was a slight troublemaker- he was loud and mischievious, but a good student. He learned quickly; probably why he was so rambunctious in class. He most likely got bored and was also really impatient with those not as quick as he was. But it wasn't surprising; he was of the Uchiha clan. Yoh wondered how long it would be till Obito's Sharigan revealed itself.

And then there was little Kakashi...Yoh knew Kakashi's brief history. His father, Hatake Sakumo, was good friend's with Yoh's old sensei, Jiraiya. Hatake Sakumo was one of the village's most celebrated heros. He was known as the "White Fang of Konoha", due to his white hair. He was also called that because, unlike normal chakra which was blue, Sakumo's had been a burning white.

Kakashi could very possibly follow his father's footsteps and become an extremely powerful ninja. His chakra was white like his father's and so was his hair. But instead of sharp, ice blue eyes, Kakashi's were a deep brown. Besides the white hair, he didn't resemble Sakumo too much; Kakashi was small and thin, but with an angelic baby face that seemed far too innocent for even a boy of five.

"Sensei?" Rin's voice broke Yoh from his thoughts and he grinned.

"Sorry. Actually, I hate to say this, but your test isn't over." Yoh said. "See, we just screen the cadets for those who can possibly become gennins. So, you have one more trial to pass."

"What if we don't?" Rin asked in a somewhat tiny voice.

"You get sent back to the academy." Yoh answered. Rin bit her lip, Obito looked confident and Kakashi...was blank faced. The small boy so far hadn't reacted to anything at all.

"Okay, this is the test." Yoh took out two small, silver bells and let them dangle from his fingers. "Get these bells from me. Each person who has a bell passes."

"But there's only two!" Rin exclaimed.

"So one of us fails regardless." Kakashi said calmly. Yoh didn't answer, but gripped the bells in his hand.

"You have till noon." he said. "You'd better give it all you got. Because you won't get them otherwise." Yoh grinned widely as the three children moved into positions; although Kakashi was the only one who drew a weapon.

Rin looked vaguely nervous but determined, Obito was grinning with excitement and even Kakashi had a slight glint of anticipation in his eyes.

"Begin now." Yoh said quietly, then vanished from view in the blink of the eye.
